Same problem. If I hotwire it to my car, it starts at the first try. So, I think the battery just doesn't have enough juice to turn the engine over properly. Last summer I got a new battery and the problem went away completely. The battery was on the charger all winter, but it seems to be exhibiting the same behavior now. Frustrating.
Another thought...is it possible that the alternator is not charging it up properly? If that were the case, it would never reach a full charge, etc, etc.
